Here at Costa Rica Holiday we
are dedicated to helping the community we live and
work in and those less fortunate by using a share
of our earnings to provide them with things that
they need. Overall we are seeking to enforce our
Mission, Vision and Values and improve the quality
of living of our beautiful country.
Below follows an account
of some of our recent charity events:
Lomas Del Rio
School
The Lomas del Rio
school is located in the disadvantaged Lomas del
Rio neighborhood on the east side of San Jose. We
donated two computers to the school in order to
give these children the opportunity to learn about
information technology and find a job in the IT
market. The Lomas del Rio area is affected by poverty
and drug problems, we believe that education is
essential to keep children away from drugs and crime
and improve their quality of life.

Asociacion
Obras del Espiritu Santo
The Asociation Obras
del Espiritu Santo is an institution from the Catholic
Church that began working on the year 2000, as an
answer for the necessities of the really poor people
in San Jose's 'red zone'. After getting legal constitution
on 2003 as a certified social institution it helps
a population in high social risk in the urban marginal
places of San Jose.
In this institution kids, teenagers and young pregnant
girls are helped to satisfy their basic needs and
receive some extra projects for more academic formation.
For this particular event, Costa Rican Vacations
staff helped with the delivery of food, candy and
Christmas gifts for over 3000 kids from the poorest
areas of San Jose.

Casa Luz
Casa Luz is in La
Guacima de Alajuela, The mission of Casa Luz is
to break the intergenerational cycle of abuse and
sexual exploitation of the children in Costa Rica
by providing a safe, loving, Christian environment
for at risk young mothers (age 16+) and their children.
Thsi environment will provide the resources necessary
to allow these families healthy and successful participation
and reintegration in society.
Project Overview:
Casa Luz is a home for young mothers from the age
of 16. These girls have been sexually abused and/or
exploited, come from extreme poverty and are at
high social risk. Casa Luz is the first stage of
our vision to change the lives of these girls and
their children. The home can accommodate 15 mothers
and 20 or more of their children. We provide shelter,
emotional support, educational and vocational development,
Christian spiritual training, and training in parenting
skills.

At the time of our
event there were four live-in house mothers, a social
worker, a psychologist, two school teachers, one
part-time nursery worker and two cooks on staff,
to provide 24 hour care and counseling. It is expected
that each mother and her children will need a minimum
of two years in the first stage of fully dependent
living at Casa Luz. One long term goal for these
girls is to ure.

The process of developing
stage two of the project has already begun, it will
provide subsidized housing and support in a semi-independent
living environment. This will allow the girls that
are ready to move into the community and/or workforce
while still being closely linked to the support
at Casa Luz. The vision for this property is the
construction of double family units and a multi-purpose
center. Their hope is to use this center for a future
daycare and kinder programs and for community outreach.
It is their hope that this second stage will be
built gradually over the next two to three years.
