| What
is the voltage in Costa Rica?
The
Voltage in Costa Rica is the same as the US, 120V
60HzHz and Uk plugs will not fit Costa Rican plug
sockets. In order to use Uk plugs you will have
to get a step down plug from 240v to 120v as just
an adapter will not work.
How
much do i tip?
Tipping
is not part of the culture in Costa Rica but as
more people visit and tip Costa Ricans are becoming
more accustomed to being tipped. Usually 10% service
charges are already included so tipping waiters
is not necessary, however if he was a good waiter
feel free to tip. Taxi drivers there is no need
to tip. Porters and other service people are tipped
usually and somewhere between $1-$2 is usually fine.
What
side of the road do they drive on?
Not
the same side as us, Costa Rican drive on the right
hand side of the roads, so get used to changing
gear with the door!
Is
there any cultural things i should be aware of?
Well
when in Costa Rica treat the country and people
with respect as you do in your own country. the
countries are very similar with regard to cultural
things and apart from being very passive on the
roads there is nothing too much.
Women
however should not be surprised if men whistle at
them as this is normal macho behavior in Costa Rica.
Is
it true that i can bribe the police?
There
have in the past been instances of this in the past
however if you do get stopped by the police do not
offer a bribe as you could find yourself in a fine
Costa Rican carcel (jail). take the ticket and make
sure you pay for it before you leave the country
as re-entry in the future could be rather difficult. |
