The town itself is one of the most developed beach towns in Costa Rica due to its great surf, great beaches and the altogether wide array of activities. In recent years Tamarindo has gained a global reputation for being a top quality spot for surfing and blue water sport fishermen. The sport fishing fleet of experienced captains are the best down the Pacific coast here in Costa Rica and renowned for its marlin, sailfish and giant tuna. The fishing is suited for all types from deep blue water fishing to reef or shoreline fishing. Surfers of all levels will enjoy the year round facilities it has to offer. If that isn’t enough to do, activities such as SCUBA diving, water skiing, sailing cruises and horseback riding to name a few are all available to do with equipment available to hire.
Tamarindo being in the North West also has some of the driest weather in Costa Rica, and sun can be had here all year round. There are 2 seasons: the dry and the wet. The dry season is from November to April and days are dry, hot and sunny with a comfortable low humidity. The wet season is from May to October and days are sunny with clouds and showers forming later on producing amazing sunsets. Everything is green and lush at this time of year. Temperatures of 80 to 100 degrees F all year round make the climate very pleasant.
There is an amazing selection of international and typical Costa Rican restaurants which are great for evening dining and entertainment. With fresh local seafood, fruits and vegetables you will never be bored of the wonderful variations of freshly prepared food on offer. Tamarindo also boasts some of Costa Rica's best hotels to suit everybody and their specific needs.
Although Tamarindo seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose, it is the most accessible location along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica with an airstrip serviced 7 days week by 2 airlines: SANSA and Nature Air. There is also a direct main road from San Jose to Tamarindo that would only take about 4-5 hours by car or bus.
