Costa Rican Tax Reform hits rock bottom!!

After years of meetings, voting and deliberation Costa Rican legislators dealt a kiss of death to the tax reform that was to re-event the tax wheel in Costa Rica. The legislators stated that the way is which the reform was approved was unconstitutional. If this is true then 4 years of deliberations, loads of amendments and objections, millions of dollars in legislators' wages and hard lobbying by President Abel Pacheco in favour of his top-priority project that is meant to reform the fiscal crisis so that many under funded sectors: Roads, Hospitals, etc will be able to function properly: will die a painful death.

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court stated that the Legislative Assemble had violated legislative procedure in its handling of the bill. There is however still a chance that they may be able to revise the unconstitutional flaws and have it ready in six weeks when the new government takes office. Many however feel that to do all this in 6 weeks will just be too much!!

Restricted Access to Poas Volcano!!

Access to the famous Volcan Poas has been restricted by park officials as eruptions started on Friday evening These measure are just preventative for the moment as tourists can get rather close to the volcano. The strongest of the eruptions threw rock and sediment 150m into the air and this is the first time in 12 years the Volcano has erupted.

Five more eruptions happened on Saturday and this is due to the gas build up underneath the turquoise lake that sits in Paos's crater.
